La Crosse, WI—Dan Kapanke, Republican candidate for Congress in Wisconsin's Third Congressional District, announced today that The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) promoted Kapanke to "Contender" status as part of its Young Guns program.  "Contender" status is the second step in the three-level program. He is now facing a new set of benchmarks to reach full "Young Gun" status in his bid to unseat Democratic incumbent Ron Kind.

"I am honored to be recognized by the NRCC and am proud to participate in the Young Guns Program," said Dan Kapanke. "This recognition shows that folks are confident that I can defeat Ron Kind in November."

Founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Representatives Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI), the Young Guns program is a member-driven organization dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. By achieving "Contender" status, Kapanke has already proven his ability to build a successful campaign structure and achieve vital fundraising goals.

Kapanke added, "As I meet folks around the district, I am continually encouraged by the strength of my campaign and our ability to defeat Ron Kind in November. The desire of people in Wisconsin, who want real change in Washington, is to cut the out-of-control spending and bring back jobs."

Kapanke Raises Over $243,000 in Latest Reporting Period

La Crosse, WI—State Senator Dan Kapanke, Republican candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District, announced on Friday that his campaign has raised over $243,000 during the latest financial reporting period of the campaign. Since announcing his candidacy, Kapanke has raised over $580,000 in his bid to defeat Ron Kind. In documents filed with the Federal Election Commission, the Kapanke campaign reported raising $243,872 and has a cash on hand balance of $342,212.

During the quarter, Kapanke received contributions from many concerned voters in Wisconsin. In fact, all of Kapanke’s contributions came from individuals. The campaign reports that of the $243,000 raised, none of the money Kapanke raised came from PAC’s or special interest groups. This fact signals overwhelming grass-roots support and a striking difference between his and Ron Kind’s campaign, which relies heavily on union, PAC, and special interest group contributions.

"I believe that this strong showing of financial support is an indication of the momentum that my campaign has," said Dan Kapanke. "I am humbled by the support that so many folks in Wisconsin have given me. I am ready to take on and defeat Ron Kind in November."

Ron Kind Votes Against Wisconsin Farmers
Wall Street Reform Bill Bad for Agriculture

La Crosse, WI—Dan Kapanke, Republican candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District, criticized Rep. Ron Kind and the liberals in Congress for supporting the Wall Street reform bill which negatively impacts farmers in Wisconsin. The bill, passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, contains language which increases the cost on farmers looking to protect against adverse conditions at harvest time. The Wall Street reform bill, supported by Kind and Nancy Pelosi, will negatively impact farmers in Western Wisconsin.

"Once again, Ron Kind has sided with Nancy Pelosi and the liberals in Congress and supported another bill that hurts Wisconsin farmers," said Dan Kapanke. "First the Cap-and-Tax bill that will significantly raise energy costs for farmers and now this bill will prevent farmers from financially protecting against a bad season. Farmers in Wisconsin are desperate for a voice in Washington. I am campaigning hard to be that voice."

The Wall Street Journal reported today that the Wall Street reform bill, set to be passed by Congress this week, will make it difficult for farmers to participate in the derivatives – a financial tool often utilized by agriculture operations to protect against future losses. The derivatives market is one component often singled out as the root of the current financial crisis. However, when utilized in agriculture, derivatives become an important resource for farmers looking to safeguard against unanticipated drops in commodity prices.

"Western Wisconsin needs a Congressman who actually understands the needs of farmers," said Dan Kapanke. "I am running for Congress to bring common sense back to Washington, to bring jobs back to Wisconsin, to get this reckless spending under control and protect our farmers against liberal policies that originate out of San Francisco."

Race of the Day: WI-03

Among a crowded Republican field in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District, candidate Dan Kapanke is poised to challenge seven-term Democrat incumbent Ron Kind in one of the toughest races he has faced in years. The district, which shares a border with the Mississippi River and Illinois in Wisconsin’s southwest corner, sports the second most dairy farms in the country, making taxes and the sluggish economic recovery a large focus of this year’s election.
