La Crosse, WI—Dan Kapanke, Republican candidate for Congress in Wisconsin's Third Congressional District, announced today that The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) promoted Kapanke to "Contender" status as part of its Young Guns program.  "Contender" status is the second step in the three-level program. He is now facing a new set of benchmarks to reach full "Young Gun" status in his bid to unseat Democratic incumbent Ron Kind.

"I am honored to be recognized by the NRCC and am proud to participate in the Young Guns Program," said Dan Kapanke. "This recognition shows that folks are confident that I can defeat Ron Kind in November."

Founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Representatives Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI), the Young Guns program is a member-driven organization dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. By achieving "Contender" status, Kapanke has already proven his ability to build a successful campaign structure and achieve vital fundraising goals.

Kapanke added, "As I meet folks around the district, I am continually encouraged by the strength of my campaign and our ability to defeat Ron Kind in November. The desire of people in Wisconsin, who want real change in Washington, is to cut the out-of-control spending and bring back jobs."
