Dear Editor: One of the many policy items included in the state budget bill was a measure that changed Wisconsin’s prevailing wage rate. The new law:

Kind, a Democrat from La Crosse, has been representing Wisconsin’s 3rd District since 1996.

Sen. Dan Kapanke was first elected to the state legislature in 2004 and was reelected in 2008.

Congress hopeful Kapanke wants dialogue on issues

Dan Kapanke knows unseating a congressional incumbent will be a challenge, even in a year when pundits say political trends are moving in favor of Republicans like himself.

"Why am I doing this?" Kapanke asked rhetorically Thursday during an interview with the Leader-Telegram's editorial board. "The people deserve to have a dialogue on the issues."

Reducing the size and scope of government is never an easy task, which is the primary reason why our state’s budget deficit is $2.71 billion and our nation’s budget deficit is $1.6 trillion.
